Flooring For Child's Bedroom
All parents have been here before – what is the best flooring to lay in a kids room? Whether it's a play room or a bedroom, whichever type of flooring you choose, and however much time you dedicate to keeping it looking great, it will be quickly covered in toys and, inevitably, be a scene of juice spillages and painting disasters.
The main thing to keep in mind is that children fall over – a lot – so getting the right floor really does matter:
What are your choices? Lets look through your options:
Laminate
Laminate flooring can be quite slippery. Prepare yourself for bumps and bruises or take precaution. There are products available to reduce the chance of accidents but be careful which products you use, and make sure you clean away any spillages as quickly and efficiently as possible. Laminate is easy to keep clean, keeping dust levels down, which is good for children with asthma.
Laminate can be installed with all sorts of underlays. A thicker underlay will make the floor softer and reduce noise. The big bonus with laminate is its versatility and you can get some really nice wood effects, check our laminate rangehere. It is easy to install, with sheets simply slotting together using a click-lock system.

Carpet
Carpet is fantastically soft and cosy – it dampens noise and falling children are less likely to suffer cuts and bruises on sudden impact. It traps dust so children of the shorter disposition can breathe air just as clean as the fresh air you breathe at your lofty height.
However, as carpets retain dust, it also captures all sorts of dirt. If you've stretched your budget enough to get a thick, ultra sound-absorbing carpet, then you need to clean it often. With all the moisture and dirt that follows children, you'll be at risk of mould if don't keep on top of the cleaning.
For those wanting a thick cushioned carpet, we recommend our Deep Pile carpets. This includes cut pile carpet with longer tufts for a very soft, smooth and warm feel. For added comfort, choose a thick underlay or carpet backing.

Vinyl
Vinyl is comparatively cheaper than most other flooring options – it is easy to install and is easy to maintain. Notably for a children's room it can be very decorative as it comes in a myriad of imaginative colours and patterns that can entertain children endlessly.
We suggest being as inventive as you possibly can when choosing children's vinyl flooring. Why not try a racetrack? A road around town? A map that would look great with Lego creations on top? The colours will stimulate the children's creativity too – probably!
Wood
This natural product looks stunning in any room. But remember that hardwood flooring expands and shrinks as the environment changes, particularly in areas with high humidity; this will cause the planks to move, creak and gaps will appear, unless of course you maintain your floor very well or protect the floor with a child-friendly mat:

To avoid any damage to a beautiful hardwood floor, you could go with engineered wood instead. This is made of layers of various types of wood which are topped with a layer of hardwood, giving the impression of solid hardwood flooring. This trickery leads to safer and easier maintenance, with fewer cracks for children to stick fingers and toys in. The hardness of the wood has to be taken into account – this can be softened with a decent underlay, or even by using the child's mat above!
