Master Bathroom
The master bath was conceived as an old-fashioned bathroom — or one that feels very much like a room. An Empire tub by Waterworks is given center stage. Sheer curtains behind French doors mask a clothes closet, and Shaker-style drawers hold folded items.

Living Room
In the living room, the juxtaposition of a self-portrait by artist Chuck Close against a flowery chinoiserie wallpaper, Iksel's Eastern Eden, immediately signals that this is not formula decorating. The jewel tones of the Holland & Sherry velvet on the custom sofa by Luther Quintana, the Sequana fabric on vintage French bergères from Duane, and the leather on Ikea's Bernhard chair give the room character. Lamps, Gracious Home. Carpet, Patterson Flynn Martin.

Daughter's Bedroom
Whittaker wanted the bedroom for her client's college-age daughter to feel sophisticated, but still youthful and feminine. She upholstered the bed in Suzzani by Quadrille and dressed it in Matouk Mirasol bedding. An Ava mirrored nightstand from Worlds Away holds a Genevieve table lamp from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Walls are painted Mountain Mist by Benjamin Moore.

Home Office
Comfortable furnishings and eye-catching art make the home office more than just a place to pay bills. An ottoman from J. Seitz & Co. is a soft touch next to a vintage Fritz Hansen chair and a West Elm daybed.

A Colorful Los AngelesKitchen
The kitchen has a cozy atmosphere in keeping with the 1939 house. A 19th-century English farm table is paired with Crate & Barrel chairs. To warm up the space, Samperton added a flea-market rug and Roman shades in Bennison's Dragon Flower. Walls and cabinetry are painted in Benjamin Moore's Ivory White. Viking stove and Vent-A-Hood hood. Cortina lantern, Paul Ferrante. See page 130 to get the look.

Living Room
The two guest apartments are at either end of the barn. Each has a living room, kitchen, and bath on the ground floor, with a bedroom upstairs. In this cozy living room, a collection of Mark Catesby prints, found at J.Pocker, hangs above a De La Renta sofa from Century Furniture, covered in a P. Kaufmann fabric. Sea grass stools from Pottery Barn offer more seating around the Monica James coffee table.
